Winner of Best Set of Work 2015

As a Newby to London Potters the last thing I expected was to win Best Set of Work at the 2015 London Potters exhibition.

I’d arrived early at the Morley Gallery to help Catriona put the finishing touches to the exhibition, but was instead invited to join her and the judges for lunch. During which the discussion moved onto the winning pots, indicating that the best set of work went to the three lidded urns in the window. What, the red, blue and white ones I bellowed. Yes. They’re mine

Well that was a surprise,

Considering that three weeks earlier on their last glaze firing, the white glaze inside was too thick and blistered.

So at the last minute I decided to remake two the pots again from scratch and actually threw the best and biggest pots I had ever made. Just a shame they shrink a lot after firing.

The final glazes used relied on my marble effect technique, with one pot marbled black and white, one pot in blues and the last in red and black.

What made the whole experience even better was that the two most expensive pots sold.

One for £190 and the other £150.

Bring on the next show
